EUKN Urban Review: The Art of Just-City-Making
February 2022
It certainly is not the first time that we hear about the importance of making our cities ‘just’. At the same time, developing a well-established practice of just-city-making might have never been as urgent as now. The repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic are severely affecting towns and cities, while social disparities are an ongoing pressing issue.
This is why the EUKN is proud to announce The Art of Just-City-Making: a series of Policy Labs, organised as part of the EUKN support to the French Council Presidency and in cooperation with ICLEI, URBACT, and the OECD.
The three Policy Labs will explore how to create just cities in a green, productive, and digital manner, emphasising the relevance of integrated approaches towards sustainable urban development. This initiative reflects the French Presidency’s commitment to implement the New Leipzig Charter, which has put forward the notion the just, green, and productive dimensions of cities, complemented by the cross-cutting dimension of digitalisation. Besides being a platform for exchange and learning, The Art of Just-City-Making will contribute to guidelines for policymakers on ‘how to create a just city’.
Read on for more information on the three Policy Labs, the Urban Voices interview with Sabrina Abdi representing the French Council Presidency, as well as previous EUKN activities related to the topic and top reads. But most importantly – save the date(s)! The detailed programmes will follow soon.
