Policy Lab for Spain: Urban resilience and green infrastructure to prevent and combat climate change impacts

In collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda (MIVAU), the European Urban Knowledge Network (EUKN) will host a Policy Lab on 8 April to address Spain’s increasing vulnerability to climate change, with a focus on water management and urban resilience.
The devastating floods in Valencia in October 2024, which resulted in severe destruction and loss of life, highlight the pressing need for stronger adaptation strategies to mitigate future risks. This event will bring together European and Spanish experts, policymakers, and urban practitioners to explore innovative solutions for climate adaptation, with a particular emphasis on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and green infrastructure as key tools for sustainable water management.
Through expert discussions and case studies, the Policy Lab will examine how cities can integrate resilient urban planning approaches, foster cross-sector collaboration, and align national and local policies to enhance flood resilience and long-term climate adaptation efforts. The event will serve as a platform for exchanging best practices and lessons learned, contributing to the broader European agenda on urban resilience and sustainable development.
