Unravelling the ‘Green’ Actions of the Urban Agenda for the EU – Parts I and II
Slovenia (virtual) — 3 November & 9 June 2020
Joint organiser: Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of Slovenia
Guided by the upcoming 2021 Slovene EU Council Presidency, this event series investigated harnessing the Urban Agenda for the EU (UAEU) to promote environmental sustainability and better regulation. Utilising an EUKN-developed approach, five of the UAEU’s ‘green’ actions were presented and analysed over the two sessions.
In June, participants explored actions to ‘Help make waste legislation support the circular economy in cities’, ‘Help make water legislation support the circular economy in cities’ (Circular Economy) and ‘Better Regulation to boost NBS at European, National and Local Levels’ (Sustainable Use of Land and Nature-Based Solutions). In November, the focus shifted to ‘Data standards supporting citizen participation in urban planning’ (Digital Transition) and ‘Reducing diversity of Urban Vehicle Access Regulations’ (Urban Mobility). To follow, participants debated the implications for the post-2020 UAEU, reflecting on further implementing and capitalising on the actions discussed.
