Sustainable Retail Policy and the Functional Urban Area

Joined by representatives from the Cypriot Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, ALA Planning Partnership, an independent Nicosia-based consultancy and international experts, this event explored creating retail policy within the context of Functional Urban Areas.
Reflection on the Cypriot retail sector’s current and future policy framework defined two main challenges: urban sprawl and revitalisation of city centres. From that basis, this Policy Lab pooled international experts’ input to advise on setting sustainable retail policy in Cyprus. The resulting recommendations included generating a detailed retail database, modifying the current regulatory framework, and creating a tailored plan for Cyprus based on other European countries’ good practices.
