High-level informal exchange: Social tensions in cities in transition
Berlin, 6-7 June 2023
Organised with the German Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building
The EUKN facilitated an inter-ministry exchange on responding to social tensions in cities facing challenges on climate, housing and the cost-of-living crisis.
Meeting in Berlin, participants discussed how urban policy can sustain cohesion in cities and neighbourhoods amidst ongoing societal transition. This informal dialogue offered representatives from Belgium, Germany, France and the Netherlands a unique chance to share experiences and insights with their counterparts. The meeting was closed with a site visit to the borough of Neukölln, where area managers and local activists outlined their efforts to improve people’s living conditions in an area facing a multitude of challenges, ranging from a lack of access to green space to issues of public health and safety, and increasing gentrification.
